Travel, Housing, and Meals
In addition to a stipend, this program provides funds for student participants to travel to NJIT at the beginning of the
program and to return home at the end of the research experience. This program provides complimentary housing to all
student participants in NJIT's dormitories for the duration of the program. We also provide a supplement for meals to all students.
Stipends
All students will receive a stipend of $4,200 for participating in the NJIT REU Program.
Campus Life at NJIT
NJIT's 45-acre campus is situated in the heart of Newark, New Jersey's largest city. The university shares the city's vibrant and multicultural University
Heights district with the campuses of Rutgers University - Newark, the Rutgers Center for Law and Justice, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey, Essex County College, and the developing University Heights Science Park. University Heights and the adjacent downtown section comprise
the hub of Newark's ongoing economic and cultural renaissance. The campus is also only 20 minutes away from New York City, adding to
the local and regional attractions.
Students will also have access to all of the facilities in the athletic center. These include the fitness
area (containing computer controlled biking equipment, Cybex resistance units, and an indoor track), weight room, four racquetball courts
(which can be converted for squash), a martial arts center, and an aerobics/dance studio. A six-lane swimming pool is home to NJIT’s men's
and women's swimming teams, while the two varsity tennis squads host meets and hold practices at four lighted outdoor hard-court tennis courts
behind the building.
